Monster of the Week: THE SEED

THE SEED
RELEASE DATE: OCTOBER 5, 2021
RATED: R | RUNTIME: 91 MINS
DIRECTOR: SAM WALKER | WRITER: SAM WALKER
SYNOPSIS
“It’s ok, funny (not hilarious), creepy (not bone shatteringly scary) and weird (silly).”
A low-budget film made during a global pandemic, The Seed (2021) was the first feature for writer/director Sam Walker. It revolves around a trio of women on vacation who are suddenly visited by an unexpected alien. While the film looks quite stunning, it may not be for everyone despite its attempts at low-key social media commentary. It does feature some admirable non-digital creature effects, a nice helping of body horror along with an interesting, if well-trod premise, the film ultimately produces little in the way of incisive analysis of society and the plot is fairly predictable throughout. It is an enjoyable enough watch that given a greater budget, indicates good things may be forthcoming from Walker in her future filmography.
